What is biometric login?

Biometric login is a way you can securely access your online banking without having to type in your password. This is done by verifying identity through things like fingerprints and facial recognition.

Biometrics has become a commonly used login method across several sectors, including banking.

What are the advantages of biometrics in banking?

Biometric data is unique to you, and unlike a password or other knowledge-based credentials, it generally can’t be as easily shared, replicated or lost.

Using biometrics also allows you to login to your banking app faster than if you were to type in a password, as it offers an almost instant authentication experience.

Common types of biometrics

The most common types of biometric authentication are fingerprint and facial recognition. Both are common ways of authentication on smartphones, using the device’s camera for facial recognition.

Other types of biometrics can include iris and retina scanning, voice recognition, and behavioural biometrics such as the way you type and use a mouse on a computer.

Is biometric banking safe?

Using biometrics to access your online banking is a secure and reliable authentication method. However, biometrics is one part of overall digital banking safety.

How do I enable biometrics in the People First Bank App?

To enable Face ID or facial recognition for the People First Bank App, you need to first have your face registered in your mobile phone settings. Once your face is registered on your device, you can enable Face ID at any time in the App. To do this, tap your name located on the top left corner of the screen and navigate to ‘Profile and security’.
