Recruitment process

While our recruitment process may vary depending on the role, the steps below are a general outline of what to expect.

1. Submit your application

Once we receive your online application, we review how your skills and work history match the role criteria.

2. Phone screen

If you are shortlisted, you’ll have a brief conversation with one of our Talent Acquisition Specialists to discuss key aspects of the role, your suitability, and they will provide you with more insight into what it's like to work with us.

3. Assessment

Depending on the position you may need to complete a psychometric assessment and/or a practical task.

4. Interview

You’ll attend a structured interview, either in person or online, where you'll meet with a variety of team members. This allows us to gain a well-rounded perspective on your skills and experiences, while giving you the opportunity to learn more about our team and culture. In some instances, a second interview may be required.

5. Pre-employment checks

At this stage, we conduct all necessary pre-employment checks, including references, police clearance, bankruptcy, and work entitlement verification, along with any additional checks required for specific roles.

6. Receive an outcome

We provide every applicant with an outcome at each stage of the recruitment process. If you’re successful, you’ll receive a formal offer, and once you have signed your contract, we’ll guide you through completing your onboarding activities.

Member Experience


Problem solvers. Strategic thinkers. Experience designers. With a diverse skillset covering human-centred design, strategy, marketing, operations and customer-centricity, this team works on the front line with customers in our branches and contact centres, and behind the scenes to understand their pain points and how to make their banking experience as smooth and simple as possible. Then they deliver, and make it look good!

Operations


The Operations team cover every part of the bank’s service delivery, with our customers at the forefront of all they do. From strategy to product and payments, customer-facing services, delivery and problem solving, no day is the same for our Operations team.

Technology & Transformation


The Technology & Transformation team is where innovation meets creativity. This dynamic group drives exciting tech solutions and transformative strategies that elevate the organisation.

With roles ranging from technical and data specialists, change managers, analysts, and cyber specialists, each team member plays a vital part in building digital and technology solutions for People First Bank, that turn ideas into reality.

Finance & Data


This team provide crucial support functions that help make important decisions and inform our customers. Our Finance and Data team do the heavy lifting on data, reporting and forecasting, as well as managing the financial risks inherent in our daily operations.

They nurture relationships inside and outside our business by providing information, cash flow and analysis across internal divisions, to our customers, suppliers, partners, government agencies and legislative bodies.

Legal & Company Secretary


A dynamic team of governance and legal experts, dedicated to propelling the business forward while minimising legal risk.

The team delivers sharp, practical governance and legal advice and services to a range of stakeholders. They support the Board and the business to ensure People First Bank meets its governance obligations. The team is a responsive and accessible destination for stakeholders to quickly find the answers they are seeking, enabling good business.

People & Culture


Our People and Culture (P&C) team members are committed to developing leadership and critical future capabilities; building a culture of inclusion, safety and strong values alignment, elevating employee engagement, identifying talent, and building and celebrating diversity.

Our P&C business partners work closely with our leadership teams, and along with our specialist centres of excellence: Talent Acquisition, Operations, Organisational Culture and Capability, Health and Safety, Learning and Development, Employee Relations, Performance, Reward and Payroll, and People Systems and Insights - all striving to deliver outstanding employee experiences.

Internal Audit


Working with teams across the business to bring a systematic and disciplined approach to internal auditing, the team plays an important role in objectively assuring that our bank operates in accordance with regulatory requirements and our internal frameworks and policies.

The team delivers internal audit service excellence to help the bank reach its goals and deliver positive change through banking for our customers.

Group Risk


Our Group Risk team are the ultimate coaches for our business and our people. Their expertise enables us to make informed, risk-based decisions while keeping our bank and our customers safe.

They promote a culture that understands and creates value through effective risk management while ensuring our financial and operational resilience.

Corporate Affairs & Strategy


This group of communicators, strategists, and media experts keep a finger on the pulse. They’re across industry conversations and make sure the organisation has its voice heard. They also champion our strategy, making sure our people are kept informed and aligned.

Yes, you have to submit your application via the online vacancy portal at People First Bank. An online application form is required to identify your application in our recruitment system. Due to the large scale of People First Bank's recruitment activities throughout Australia, we are unable to accept or respond to email applications.

You'll be asked to explain your motivation for the position - what it is that you are looking to gain from working with People First Bank, and you'll be asked to share your skills and experiences. Our interview questions are aligned to the position that you have applied for and may include technical, scenario and experience-based questions.  To prepare, we suggest you review the Position Description and think about some examples of the work that you have done that relate to the position. We are a values-based organisation, so we also recommend that you review these values and consider how your values align with ours. 

Psychometric assessments are standardised tests used to evaluate cognitive abilities, personality traits, and behavioural tendencies - they can include assessments of problem-solving abilities, verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, and personality fit, and may be used alongside interviews and other selection methods to provide a more comprehensive view of your potential for success in the role. 

We will conduct a minimum of two reference checks as part of our selection process. We require referees to be people who have supervised your work in a previous position preferably within the last three years. We won't be contacting your referees unless you are shortlisted for a position, but you should make them aware of your application with People First Bank. 

Yes, all team members who are employed must have the right to work in Australia. We will request documentation from you to demonstrate your right to work in Australia during the recruitment process. 

Yes, pre-employment checks are essential in maintaining the trust and security of our members, employees, and stakeholders.
