Toowoomba branch first in Queensland to become People First Bank

The Plaza branch in Toowoomba has become the first Heritage Bank branch in Queensland to reopen as People First Bank, marking the next step in the bank's transition to a single national brand.

Located beneath the bank's head office at 400 Ruthven Street, the branch reopened today following refurbishment with new People First Bank branding.

It is one of the first four Heritage branches nationally to be updated, alongside branches in Parramatta, Castle Hill and Brisbane's Queen Street. All other Heritage branches will transition to the People First Bank brand over the next 12 months, with the program expected to be completed by July 2027.

The rebrand follows the launch of new People First Bank products, digital banking, website and customer services earlier this year.

People First Bank Chief Customer Officer Maria-Ann Camilleri said the Plaza branch transformation was an important milestone for Toowoomba.

“We were founded in Toowoomba more than 150 years ago, so it's fitting the first Heritage branch to become People First Bank is here,” Ms Camilleri said.

“It reflects our long-term commitment to Toowoomba through local jobs, community investment and our new head office.”

People First Bank continues to have the largest banking workforce in the region, employing around 450 people locally, operating more branches than any other bank across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, and investing around $4 million in local communities each year.

Planning is also progressing on the bank's new Toowoomba head office at 502 Ruthven Street.

People First Bank has signed an Agreement to Lease with Toowoomba-based developer FKG Group, which will construct the building. The bank will be the principal tenant, occupying office and branch space and securing the building naming rights.

The Development Application is expected to be considered by Toowoomba Regional Council in the coming months, with completion anticipated in 2029.
